Birthday Crafts

Good afternoon!

For those of you who don’t know, I used to blog at a site I named ‘Crafty and Fun’. And as you may have guessed…that ship has sailed. But my love of crafting and creativity hasn’t. And so I am pleased to share what I made just recently for my dad’s birthday. A quick introduction though: One of the gifts I made stemmed off an idea I had for my upcoming etsy shop. The idea was (in my mind) grasping at straws. But it looked something like this:

A ‘survivor’ mini model bed roll, already trying to roll up. So I snapped the pic. really fast.
IMG_1871.JPG
It literally, without any help… rolls up if there’s no pressure holding it down! It’s because of the tension on the strings.

Now, how does that relate to the gift I made dad? Well…it gave me the idea because of the twigs. Otherwise, it holds no relation to the gift for dad. But that’s how random my mind is. The slightest thing can trigger an idea (no matter how far out) in my brain. And that’s what happened here. So, I headed outside and brought in some twigs to make dad a coaster…

Brown satin ribbon made good ‘binding’ for the coaster. I filled in the cracks with hot glue…and regretted it later– because the hot glue ends up so white it shows up way too much in pictures. I am now wishing I would of had some clear glue at my disposal. Or some wood putty. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

And then I got sidetracked and started snapping photos of my zinnia plant that just opened up…

I told you I tend to be rather random. But now for part two of the gift. I made a card, and I also made a beaded bookmark. Sadly, I didn’t have the best beads at my disposal for this project…but I made do.

And everything else all together.

Hope y’all liked this post, as random as it was. Stay tuned for some fall pictures and also for something about a survivors shelter. “What?” you say? Better keep an eye openย to see what I’m talking about. Till then, adieu!

Do you ever hand make gifts for people?

Do you like zinnias?

What are YOUR thoughts on all this fall weather? (thumbs up over here!! ๐Ÿ™‚ )

Etsy Shop| An Update

Hello!

I promised to post updates, didn’t I? Well, I did…and so I’m here! Just to touch base a little with y’all,–the past two months have been spent busily- and (I HOPE ๐Ÿ™‚ ) productively. I spent them brainstorming and experimenting various product ideas. As a result, today I have pictures to share! YAY.

Note: the pictures I’m sharing are not complete projects. They are still in progress. Here’s a mini list of what I’m about to share:

  1. An earring. (from the jewelry department)
  2. A headband. (from the headwear department)

Yep, it’s not much. But it’s what I’ve got for now…*smile*.

There are many imperfections in the products…I know. But this is just stage two. There won’t be these imperfections in the finished products. In the headband photos my little sister had to hold the sides of the headband so it wouldn’t fall off. That’s because I haven’t actually attached the piece that holds it on the head! But…I promised updates- and I want to give y’all a taste of the process step-by-step.

And yes, in the earring photos…there is a WIRE sticking out of the top of the earring! ๐Ÿ™‚ And NO, there will most certainly NOT be that wire in the finished product.

Sorry there isn’t more. There are more products, but they’re not quite picture worthy yet!

Thanks to my lil’ sis Ellie for sitting so patiently as I tried to figure out some of the settings on the camera.

Thanks also to my big sis Hannah, who’s graciously offered to allow me to use her camera to practice photography and take product photos. I am very grateful.

What projects are y’all working on?

Do you ever want to startย a business from home?

Do y’all know of any articles I could watch to improve my product photos?

My Slow Journey| To Being an Etsy Seller

The dreaded post has arrived. Dreaded for me anyhow. On my many numerous (no kidding) blogs current and extinct–I was always mentioning etsy. Or rather, being an etsy SELLER.ย  I have always considered etsy as being a great place for creativity people to get the word out about their products. Over the years I have done several posts on the fact that I planned to sell on etsy. There are several old posts on another blog somewhere which have pictures of ideas for products. Needless to say, 1 year later–my ideas have changed. Today, I’m just basically going to bring you up to date with my current plans so you can stay tuned.

First of all, what was I going to be selling?

For those of you who’ve seen my original posts on etsy selling- you know that my very first idea(s) was/were pretty much this:

  1. Knitted nut pattern dishcloths.
  2. Polka dotted hand crafted cards and stationary.
  3. Occasionally–beaded bracelets.
  4. Etc. (I know, SO helpful–but seriously everything else fitted into this category!)

Yeah…my ideas aren’t quite the same anymore. Now I am considering a variety of other things. I have put on my creative thinking hat and decided I want my shop to be the very best it can be. And that means–not just quality (although yes, I need that!), but cute, original, (as original as I can be ๐Ÿ™‚ ) and new-ish.

Secondly, what am I going to be selling?

  1. Headbands (I won’t spoil the specifics yet).
  2. Jewelry (more creative types–again, me no tell yet).
  3. Handmade stationary & cards.
  4. Hand-drawn frame art.
  5. Etc./Everything else.ย  (I do that in the new me still–some things never change!)

What is the history of my etsy shop?

Me in 2014: SoCraftyandFun opens for business.

Me in 2015: Shop still existent but closed due to its slacker owner ๐Ÿ™‚ .

Me in 2016: “Well, I have a whole lot more ideas and much more to offer now. Maybe I should start back up?”…WELL…| Emmaline decides to name her shop CrystalceStudio (Crystal Ice Studio, but the ‘i’ in ‘ice’ is chopped off in her shop name.).

Why CrystalceStudio/ Crystal Ice Studio?

There’s actually a story behind the name. I just recently moved–and my parents have given me a tiny little room to use as my studio. I knew I wanted it to be called a studio instead of just plain old office. But anyway…I began doing EVERYTHING in my studio. I knew I needed a name for my studio. Then, it happened. I decided to create an instagram (which, BTW, I haven’t even used yet.)–and I named it Crystal_Ice_Studio (I think?). Two months later, here’s my new etsy shop name.

Will you update us when you ACTUALLY open your shop?

Yep. I’ll probably have a huge ‘open for business’ post with links to all my products and my sh ๐Ÿ™‚ p. I’ll be way too excited to forget to tell you when I’m open. So don’t worry–I’ll keep y’all posted.
