What I Bought | My Latest Purchases

Hello, guys!

I am back with a post showing {and bullet-quick reviewing} my latest purchases.

I have a part-time job so I have been making some money, and then of course I have done several photo shoots recently which I’ve been paid for.

So I’ve bought some things here and there to delight my crafty/artsy self. 🙂

Kindle Paperwhite + 5 free books

Kindle Paperwhite+5 free books.jpg

Hey guys!

I have been…not on this blog. If my stats bar serves me right…it’s been about four days?

Today I am going to share a product-ish review that has really impacted my reading life. It’s called…the Kindle Paperwhite!

You can get many different kindles off places (primarily Amazon). The main difference between this one and say, the kindle fire- is the intended usage. The paperwhite is intended almost exclusively for reading, whereas the fire- is mostly for internet, games, etc. Yes, you can read on it…but I think it’s much more painful on the eyes.

LoVeLy FeAtUrEs

*Changeable resolution (screen brightness adjustable). What’s really neat about this feature is that it was created to keep the eyes from having to adjust no matter where you’re reading at.

*Many books can be carried and read on-the-go. I used to lug books around and devour them. Now, I can bring my kindle paperwhite along with me, stuffed with books and get away with it! It’s great. I also love how little it weighs compared to my stack of books 😀 .

*Access to the kindle lending library. Library? What? You can borrow one book a month for free out of many great titles. The last book I borrowed is ‘Once’, which is a collection of fairy tale retellings by several gifted young ladies. It’s historically themed. My point? There are a lot of great titles out there that you may borrow. Only one a month though, so make it good 😉 . Some other great titles I’ve previously borrowed:

  • The Spinner and the Slipper- by Camryn Lockhart
  • A Branch of Silver, A Branch of Gold- By Anne Elisabeth Stengl

And there are a bunch of other nice books that you’d probably enjoy.

*Access to a bunch of classics. In the kindle store, there are so many amazing old classics. You can get the entire Oz series FREE. Literally anything in the public domain is free.

5 fReE bOoKs

  1. Jane Eyre. This is a public domain book and is amazing. I know some people may not like it, but I love it. It is an amazing book. It’s a roller coaster of happy and sad all intermixed. It’s classic, and is by Charlotte Bronte.
  2. Wives and Daughters. By Elizabeth Cleghorn Gaskell. It’s also public domain, and a classic. Interesting fact, the writer died before completing the book. The BBC series is really good, although they did have to guess the ending 😉 .
  3. The Scarlet Pimpernel Books. I don’t know if any of y’all are familiar with the Scarlet Pimpernel or not. They’re a series of books set around the french revolution- and are about a daring Englishman and his brave comrades stealing french (destined-to-be-guillotined) victim’s from the clutches of the french tyrannous ‘government’. While not all of the books can be gotten free, you’d be well on your way to discovering a lovely British series. The books are written by Baroness Emmuska Orczy (that name, tho 😀 .).
  4. Grimm’s Fairy Tales. I was in love with Grimm’s, especially when I was younger. They were my favorite when I was twelve or thirteen. Whether you want to read the original german-ish Ascenputtel (Cinderella), or you are dying to hear about Snow White…this book is for you. And it’s public domain. AND it’s by Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm.
  5. Books by many different Biblical authors. In the public domain, you can find books by Martin Luther, Isaac Watts, Charles Spurgeoun, and many others.

To sum up…this product is very worth it!

Etsy Shop| An Update

Hello!

I promised to post updates, didn’t I? Well, I did…and so I’m here! Just to touch base a little with y’all,–the past two months have been spent busily- and (I HOPE 🙂 ) productively. I spent them brainstorming and experimenting various product ideas. As a result, today I have pictures to share! YAY.

Note: the pictures I’m sharing are not complete projects. They are still in progress. Here’s a mini list of what I’m about to share:

  1. An earring. (from the jewelry department)
  2. A headband. (from the headwear department)

Yep, it’s not much. But it’s what I’ve got for now…*smile*.

There are many imperfections in the products…I know. But this is just stage two. There won’t be these imperfections in the finished products. In the headband photos my little sister had to hold the sides of the headband so it wouldn’t fall off. That’s because I haven’t actually attached the piece that holds it on the head! But…I promised updates- and I want to give y’all a taste of the process step-by-step.

And yes, in the earring photos…there is a WIRE sticking out of the top of the earring! 🙂 And NO, there will most certainly NOT be that wire in the finished product.

Sorry there isn’t more. There are more products, but they’re not quite picture worthy yet!

Thanks to my lil’ sis Ellie for sitting so patiently as I tried to figure out some of the settings on the camera.

Thanks also to my big sis Hannah, who’s graciously offered to allow me to use her camera to practice photography and take product photos. I am very grateful.

What projects are y’all working on?

Do you ever want to start a business from home?

Do y’all know of any articles I could watch to improve my product photos?

My Slow Journey| To Being an Etsy Seller

The dreaded post has arrived. Dreaded for me anyhow. On my many numerous (no kidding) blogs current and extinct–I was always mentioning etsy. Or rather, being an etsy SELLER.  I have always considered etsy as being a great place for creativity people to get the word out about their products. Over the years I have done several posts on the fact that I planned to sell on etsy. There are several old posts on another blog somewhere which have pictures of ideas for products. Needless to say, 1 year later–my ideas have changed. Today, I’m just basically going to bring you up to date with my current plans so you can stay tuned.

First of all, what was I going to be selling?

For those of you who’ve seen my original posts on etsy selling- you know that my very first idea(s) was/were pretty much this:

  1. Knitted nut pattern dishcloths.
  2. Polka dotted hand crafted cards and stationary.
  3. Occasionally–beaded bracelets.
  4. Etc. (I know, SO helpful–but seriously everything else fitted into this category!)

Yeah…my ideas aren’t quite the same anymore. Now I am considering a variety of other things. I have put on my creative thinking hat and decided I want my shop to be the very best it can be. And that means–not just quality (although yes, I need that!), but cute, original, (as original as I can be 🙂 ) and new-ish.

Secondly, what am I going to be selling?

  1. Headbands (I won’t spoil the specifics yet).
  2. Jewelry (more creative types–again, me no tell yet).
  3. Handmade stationary & cards.
  4. Hand-drawn frame art.
  5. Etc./Everything else.  (I do that in the new me still–some things never change!)

What is the history of my etsy shop?

Me in 2014: SoCraftyandFun opens for business.

Me in 2015: Shop still existent but closed due to its slacker owner 🙂 .

Me in 2016: “Well, I have a whole lot more ideas and much more to offer now. Maybe I should start back up?”…WELL…| Emmaline decides to name her shop CrystalceStudio (Crystal Ice Studio, but the ‘i’ in ‘ice’ is chopped off in her shop name.).

Why CrystalceStudio/ Crystal Ice Studio?

There’s actually a story behind the name. I just recently moved–and my parents have given me a tiny little room to use as my studio. I knew I wanted it to be called a studio instead of just plain old office. But anyway…I began doing EVERYTHING in my studio. I knew I needed a name for my studio. Then, it happened. I decided to create an instagram (which, BTW, I haven’t even used yet.)–and I named it Crystal_Ice_Studio (I think?). Two months later, here’s my new etsy shop name.

Will you update us when you ACTUALLY open your shop?

Yep. I’ll probably have a huge ‘open for business’ post with links to all my products and my sh 🙂 p. I’ll be way too excited to forget to tell you when I’m open. So don’t worry–I’ll keep y’all posted.
